Happy South Asian Heritage Month in the UK!
South Asian Heritage Month ran for the first time in 2020 and is a grassroots movement that seeks to promote awareness of British South Asian heritage in the UK through education, arts, culture, expression and commemoration.
It creates a platform for South Asians to reclaim their history and identity, celebrating national diversity and what it means to be South Asian in the 21st century.
This year’s theme is “Free to Be Me” marking 5 years of #SAHM and celebrating the beauty of simply being yourself.🕊️

Identity: Who are you, and what makes you unique? Celebrate the moments that define your identity and the pride you feel in your South Asian heritage identifying from the countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka,
Community: How do we support and uplift each other? Reflect on the strength and unity within your South Asian community in the UK and how it has positively impacted your life.
Gender: What does gender mean in your cultural context? Explore how gender roles and expectations have influenced your journey and the ways you’ve navigated them.
Faith: How does your faith shape your life? Discuss the role of spirituality and religious practices in your daily life and personal growth.
Family: What role does family play in your story? Share the lessons, values, and traditions passed down through generations and how they have influenced your life choices and identity.
Life Choices: How have your life choices been shaped by your South Asian heritage? Highlight the decisions that led to personal growth and the embrace of change while maintaining your cultural identity.
Positive Impacts: What positive impacts has your South Asian background had on your life in the UK? Celebrate the unique perspectives and strengths you bring to your community, or indeed others who have done so, and are role models.

Join us at our 'Free To Be Me' event at The Horsfall to celebrate with a series
of creative workshops and activities facilitated by local South Asian artists while exploring a body of creative work by the facilitators and artists.
