42nd Street is a Greater Manchester charity that supports young people aged 11-25* years with their emotional wellbeing and mental health, promoting choice and creativity. We champion young person centred approaches that demonstrate local impact and have national significance.
We offer a range of individual therapeutic support and encourage and support young people to have a voice, and access opportunities to learn, develop new skills, be creative, have fun and demonstrate to themselves and others that they are able to recover, manage their mental health and wellbeing and achieve their full potential.
* Please note that our individual therapeutic support services are for young people aged 13-25 years only. Services for 11-12 year olds are only available where we have bespoke services in specific settings. More details about service availability across Greater Manchester and age ranges for each service can be found here.
We deliver services at our Manchester city centre base, in community venues, arts and cultural centres, and in schools and colleges to make sure our services are accessible.
We currently deliver individual counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)*, Counselling for Depression*, Eye Movement Desensitisation Reprocessing (EMDR)*, one to one psycho-social support and advocacy services in the following areas:
Why are men less likely to use a mental health service? Why, in the group of men, are black men even less likely to use a mental health service? There are many reasons but you can now read how the We Tell You team have helped contribute to this conversation.
The We Tell You manifesto and report is the culmination of a three-year peer led research project, which spoke with 78 young black men, aged 13 – 24, across Greater Manchester. In the report, you will find an executive summary, recommendations, background, method and key findings and we are inviting you to explore the perceptions and suggested solutions to some of the barriers faced by young black men when accessing services.
You can read the report in full here
