Waiting Times

General Information

Unfortunately, young people seeking one to one therapeutic support from 42nd Street may experience some delays. It is impossible to accurately predict the exact amount of wait for the service as it fluctuates based on the number of referrals, length of treatment and type of service.

However, we appreciate that young people need to have some idea of their expected wait. Therefore, we have provided waiting time estimates for each of the areas that we work in below.

42nd Street fully appreciates that lengthy waits for a service are not acceptable and we are continuing to work with our partners to do everything that we can to reduce these times. We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience and stress this may cause. Please do contact us on 0161 228 7321 if you need any further information or support “

Manchester

For Manchester based young people we estimate that they can expect to wait between 12 and 19 weeks for an assessment to take place (this assessment is usually telephone based.)

After this assessment has been completed, depending on the outcome of the assessment, the additional wait for ongoing one to one therapeutic services is estimated to be between 12 and 37 weeks, however, it is not possible to make accurate predictions and some young people’s waiting time will be longer and some will be shorter.

Salford

For young people based in  Salford we estimate that they can expect to wait between 13 and 18 weeks for an assessment to take place (this assessment is usually telephone based.)

After this assessment has been completed, depending on the outcome of the assessment, the additional wait for ongoing one to one therapeutic services is estimated to be between 14 and 31 weeks – however, it is not possible to make accurate predictions and some young people’s waiting time will be longer and some will be shorter.

Trafford

For young people based in Trafford we estimate that they can expect to wait between 10 and 20 weeks for an assessment to take place (this assessment is usually telephone based.)

After this assessment has been completed, depending on the outcome of the assessment, the additional wait for ongoing one to one therapeutic services is estimated to be an average of 41 weeks – however, it is not possible to make accurate predictions and some young people’s waiting time will be longer and some will be shorter.

Tameside & Glossop

For young people based in Tameside and Glossop we estimate that they can expect to wait between 32 and 35 weeks for an assessment to take place (this assessment is usually telephone based.)

After this assessment has been completed, depending on the outcome of the assessment, the additional wait for ongoing one to one therapeutic services is estimated to be an average of 16 weeks.

The long wait for some of our therapeutic services for young people is due to increases in the number of referrals and self-referrals that 42nd Street is receiving which puts pressure on our limited staff team. We recognise that these waiting times are not acceptable and we are doing everything that we can at 42nd Street and in collaboration with partners, commissioners and funders to address them; we know how important it is that young people are able to access the right support, at the right time and in the right place.

If you are a young person currently waiting for support at 42nd Street, please tell us about your experience and what you think we can do to support you during this time: bit.ly/2unc3N2

There are group and creative opportunities at 42nd Street, open to young people from across Greater Manchester, that it may be possible to access more quickly, these can be found on our projects and activities pages . If you click though to Self-Help Resources  you will also find some helpful links to online support, helplines and web-based resources such as the national MindEd programme. Of course we are always here to talk if you have any immediate concerns and there are other services in Manchester that may be able to meet your needs more quickly, so please don’t hesitate to call us on 0161 228 7321 and we will arrange for you to speak with one of our team.

Please feel free to contact me directly on simone.spray@42ndstreet.org.uk if you want to raise any specific issues.
